Work in wood

In a chainsaw sculpture course at the Scuola di Scultura, the almost life-size wooden sculpture shown here was created.

The formal language is deliberately based on Cubism and Modernism of the 20th century interwar years. The sculpture makes use of period architectural elements. It depicts a standing woman. Horizontal and vertical grooves enhance the depth effect of individual structural parts. A contrast to the raw wood is created by white and black painted surfaces. In a borrowing from synthetic cubism, surfaces were covered collage-like with printed paper.

The result is a work that explores the technical possibilities of working with chainsaws and opens up a spectrum of various perspectives for the viewer.
