“Kintsugi” is the traditional Japanese craft of repairing broken ceramics or porcelain.
Any cracks or fissures are not concealed, but rebuilt and made visible using the precious, vibrant urushi lacquer, deliberately emphasizing the repair with precious metal powder. Archaeological finds show that ceramics were repaired with urushi in Japan already 4500 years ago.
An object repaired with the Kintsugi technique is often considered more valuable than the original, as its “scars” tell a story, strengthen its character and make it unmistakably unique.
Kintsugi – the Japanese art of refining
We offer two alternative course types:
Traditional Kintsugi (6 evening courses) and Easy Kintsugi as one day course (scroll down to “Easy Kintsugi”)

When: Wednesday evenings, 7 pm to 9:30 pm

EASY KINTSUGI
When: Saturday 11 or 18 July:
10:00 – 12:00 Preparation of the porcelain pieces, gluing, filling of gaps
12:00 – 13:15 Lunch break
13:15 – 15:15 Sanding of glued parts, gold pigment application on the repair lines
Costs: 160.– incl. materials (adults) – CHF 120.– incl. materials (young adults till 18 years and retired adults AHV)

Takashi Sugimoto was born in Kobe, Japan. Education at music academies and conservatories of Tokyo, Munich, Basel and Zürich, specializing in French Horn, conducting and school music. Concert activities in over 18 countries and professor at music schools and academies in Switzerland and Germany.

Print workshop
When: Thursdays, 2nd and 4th week of the month, 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., except BS school holidays

Max. 6 participants
We creatively translate your ideas or templates into a printing technique. A wide range of letterpress and gravure printing processes are available and those who are not yet familiar with a technique will be introduced to it step by step. Experimental methods can also be tried out.
Examples: wood or linoprint, Gelli plate monotype, etching, copperplate engraving/drypoint
Casting with silicone mold
Concrete casts of objects are trendy! In a multi-stage process, we produce a support and silicone mold of a chosen object. The silicone mold can then be used several times and allows casts in different materials: plaster, concrete (also colored), epoxy resin, wax (starting point for bronze casting). The casts can also be changed afterwards or the reproductions produced can be incorporated into an assemblage.
2 weekends SAT/SUN; Friday evening before the first weekend for introduction and preparatory work.
